Brook Macdonald, or the "Bulldog" as he is known on the track, is one of the most talented and aggressive mountain bikers to come out of New Zealand. The mountain biking community is lucky to have Brook in their midst as his first love was with rugby, playing from age 5 until 17 when mountain biking finally got the better of him. Brook began racing downhill at the age of 15 and has been turning heads around the world since taking gold at the 2009 World Junior Downhill Champs in Australia. His winning form didn't end as a junior, Brook then moved up to the elite division and continued to place himself on the podium winning two 3rd place finishes on the UCI world cup circuit in 2011 and won the German round of the iXS European Downhill Cup.
As part of his downhill training Brook has taken up road biking and competes in events throughout New Zealand. He says that in 2014 he finished fifth in the World Championship with a close to perfect run. The fitness and strength of the top Downhill athletes is continually getting better meaning Brook has to train harder than ever to reach his goals for this season.
After coming back from injury in 2015, Brook got himself back on pace with a notable fourth place finish at a UCI World Cup round as well as podium finishes on the NZ National DH circuit. For the 2016 season he took 16th overall the UCI Downhill World Cup Championship and now sets his sights on an epic 2017, the first big event being Crankworx in Rotorua.
Brook says the best part about racing at the level he does is being able to travel the world and meet a stack of new people who are just as passionate about mountain biking as he is. With a whole life of competition experience behind him, Brook is aiming for the best this season.
