Mike lined up with his eye on the prize for the last round of Formula Drift Japan, held at The Okayama International Circuit in Mimasaka. Some extreme wet conditions made for a difficult qualification but HUMBUL handled the track like a champ.

An epic field of 52 cars lined up for qualifying for conditions that only could be described as extremely wet thanks to Tropical Storm 'Saola'. Conditions made it tricky for some drivers; making for some spins and a couple mega crashes.

“It’s awesome here at Okayama, being a F1 track it’s super-fast. That’s what I love about Formula Drift Japan is the variety of tracks. We go from Suzuka and Ebisu which are tight technical tracks, Okuibuki which is a crazy street course, then Fuji and Okayama which are both F1 circuits. On this track the judges critique us really hard. It’s a high speed entry into a big outer zone, inner clip, then out of zone 2 and out of zone 3 where it’s really crucial to get them smooth. It’s a dangerous track that requires a lot of commitment, one that I really enjoy though.”

It’s been a rollercoaster season for Mike after round 1 having had a DNF and was out in top 32 in a borrowed broken car, he clawed his way back into contention and then kicked off this final round with his eye on the championship. It was going to be tough as there were 6 drivers in position for the win. The Team Magic team finishing up a mega overall 4th place at the end of the season.

Highest of fives to Mike and his team as they showed the highest level of dedication and sportsmanship throughout all rounds of Formula Drift. We can’t wait to catch up with him as he heads back to NZ and looks towards an event of his own; Summer Bash yeeeow!
