Darren Kelly takes second podium at Round 2 of D1NZ
ilabb’s Darren Kelly has got D1NZ drift series on lock after taking out the third spot on the podium for a second time with his new Nissan backed drift machine.
Manfield Raceway played host to round 2 of the D1NZ National Drift Championship. Qualifying went down with each driver battling for a top 8 spot. Darren jumped into the equal third position after a massive second run. With a number of drivers on equal points, second and first run scores were taken into consideration for the final top 8 order with the best of the pair taking the position. Kelly went into the finals sitting in seventh with an 80.5-point score.
Darren and the r35 threw down on finals day and progressed to the top 4, rounding out the podium behind Dave Steedman and Tom Marshall, Steedman claiming his maiden D1NZ win. Kelly now sits 2nd overall in the Championship.
Such an epic start to the 2016-17 season for Darren and his team. The RB30DET still a reigning crowd favourite with the motor being one of the better sounding, and better performing, of those at the event.
