Mad Mike and Kat Benson take on 2016 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge

Your mega ilabbfamily crossed the ditch over the weekend to cover the ever growing Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge, which showcased some of the fastest and most epic{ly} rad cars on the planet.

The World Time Attack Challenge was born in 2010 by Ian Baker after he discovered the incomparable time attack scene in Japan. Baker wanted to create a time attack event like nothing seen before that brought international teams to Australia. With time the competition has grown into one of the most exciting motor events of the year, seeing a record breaking 10,500 crowd through the gates this year.

ilabbfamily drift champ Mad Mike Whiddett didn’t disappoint as he brought across his Mazda HUMBUL 4 rotor twin turbo RX-7. The second generation HUMBUL was built by TCP Magic in. The sleek matte black and silver design as well as a new custom body made the RX-7 the star of the show, drawing the crowds in the pits.

Mike was ready to rip in qualifying but unfortunately had an oil leak that dropped pressure in his first lap which landed him a zero on the points board. Time Attack rules state you have to do a consecutive 2 laps without touching the car, so Mike had to continue with his second lap even with a windshield covered in oil. Mid lap HUMBUL caught fire but Mike finished out the round with a 92 and a massive round of applause.

Problems plagued HUMBUL with Mike finishing 11th over all with this to say about the weekend;

The hardest working team of the weekend @tcpmagic and @jt_wharerauto keeping #HUMBUL on track. Working all Fri night to fix all the fire damage, @gcgturbos@turbobygarrett for the midnight delivery, then to fire it up at lunch time and find the rear main seal was blown so they loaded the car and repaired it in record time to get it back minutes before top32 then to discover blown side seals on a rotor. We risked everything last night and battled hard with a very wounded RX7 They came all this way and wanted to make sure we could put on a show for you guys. Also massive thanks to @mr_worldtimeattack@missile__mike @vsportaustralia@haltechecu @troyjenkins @fatboydrift@nico_reid_drift_ DMNZ and anyone else that jumped in to lend a hand, lent tools or fluids! Hope you all enjoyed the show and for me it was epic to meet many of my Aussie and Kiwi fans.

ilabbfamily speed demon Kat Benson also left it all on the track at World Time Attack over the weekend. Being the only female Time Attack Racer, all eyes were on her to show the boys how it was done.

Her modified weapon of choice was her Burgerfuel Evo 7, that featured a rebuilt engine, new suspension and an added dog box.

Mega ups to Kat who managed to knock 5 seconds off her Personal Best, even after some setbacks and a red flag in warm ups and early rounds.

The highest of fives to both Kat and Mike for leaving it all out on the track over the weekend, and to all of those that stopped by the ilabb both to chat or say hi!

A massive weekend was had by all, catch you all there next year!!
